Apple Vision Pro Gains PlayStation VR2 Controller Support

Apple Vision Pro Expands Capabilities with Sony PlayStation VR2 Controllers

Apple’s innovative mixed-reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, is set to become even more versatile. After unveiling the device at WWDC 2023, Apple is now enhancing its gaming experience by introducing support for third-party hand controllers in its visionOS software. Notably, Apple is collaborating with Sony to integrate the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers into the Vision Pro ecosystem.

According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, this collaboration intends to expand the headset’s capabilities beyond gaming by providing more accurate control for work-related duties like video editing and navigating apps in programs like Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. According to reports, Sony has been attempting this connection for months, and Apple is urging outside developers to include support for the PlayStation VR2 controller in their games.

The deployment of the functionality was delayed, despite the fact that Apple and Sony had originally planned to disclose it weeks ago. Following launch, PlayStation VR2 controllers will be available for purchase through Apple’s physical and online stores.

Apple has apparently developed a “wand” for Vision Pro, which is a tool similar to the Apple Pencil and intended for extremely accurate inputs in applications rather than gaming, in addition to gaming controllers.

Enhanced Gaming with Six Degrees of Freedom

Although the Xbox and PlayStation 5 controllers are now compatible with the Vision Pro, they do not have the six degrees of freedom (6DOF) necessary for a completely immersive virtual reality experience. This gap is filled with the addition of PlayStation VR2 controllers, which increases Vision Pro’s attractiveness to both professionals and gamers.

Vision Pro: A Cutting-Edge Mixed Reality Device

The innovative mixed-reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, was introduced at WWDC 2023 and combines virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) features. Starting at $3,499 (about Rs. 2,90,000), it is presently offered in a few markets, including as the US, China, Europe, and Japan.

With storage capacities of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, the Vision Pro is powered by Apple’s M2 CPU and R1 chip. Its advanced visionOS operating system makes sure that productivity, AR/VR, and gaming applications run smoothly.
