Zomato CEO’s Unique Job: Pay ₹20 Lakh to Learn & Lead

Zomato CEO Offers Unique Opportunity: Pay ₹20 Lakh for a Year of Learning

When it comes to the Chief of Staff position, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has used a novel hiring strategy. On his X (formerly Twitter) account, Goyal recently declared that those who were offered the job will not be paid for the first year. Rather, they would have to pay ₹20 lakh to Feeding India, Zomato’s nonprofit affiliate.

Seeking someone who is “hungry, empathetic, and down to earth” with a “zero entitlement” mentality is what Goyal is looking for, according to his job posting. He made it clear that the position is suitable for people looking for unmatched learning and development, not for those looking for a high-paying job.

The Role: Learning Over Earning

Goyal and the Chief of Staff will collaborate closely to develop innovative solutions for Zomato and its affiliates, such as Feeding India, Blinkit, and Hyperpure. Goyal claims that this position provides “10x more learning than a top-tier management degree” and acts as a “fast-track learning program” for motivated applicants.

Why Pay to Work?

Explaining the rationale behind the ₹20 lakh contribution, Goyal stated that it ensures applicants are genuinely motivated by the learning opportunity. The ₹20 lakh will be donated entirely to Feeding India, while Zomato will contribute an additional ₹50 lakh to a charity of the candidate’s choice, demonstrating the company’s commitment to social impact.

From the second year onwards, the company will provide a competitive salary exceeding ₹50 lakh annually.

How to Apply

Candidates with a strong learning attitude, Grade A communication skills, and no “conditioning or baggage” from past experiences are what Goyal is looking for. A 200-word cover letter outlining their qualifications for the position can be sent by email to d@zomato.com by interested candidates.

Zomato’s dedication to innovation is demonstrated by this audacious initiative, which challenges traditional hiring procedures in an effort to draw in top people prepared to make significant investments in themselves.
